For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God. – Colossians 1:9-10

Just Google “free youth ministry resources” and then be prepared for the mile long list of links available today. Many of which offer solid resources that can be used in just about any youth group setting whether you’re small or big, rural or urban, Jr High or Sr High, veteran or rookie.

I can’t help but be drawn to one resource that is a huge benefit to me, and it’s the one resource I believe we’re not talking about enough nor using enough. PRAYER. But when we face challenges and need help, how quick are we to jump on the internet and log on to our favorite youth ministry sites for the latest articles that offer some advice and encouragement to face the challenge. I’ll admit it, I’ve done it. As a matter of fact I’ve even written some of those articles, like this one.

Now, don’t misunderstand me here.  I’m NOT saying these resources aren’t helpful. But what about the best free youth ministry resource available that will make a greater impact then anything else? In the four days I spent at SYMC 2012 the greatest impact made on me was friends taking the time to not only listen and offer advice, but they also prayed for me. Not once did they say; “have you checked out such and such site? He puts out some great material.”

While I was surrounded by an array of books, DVD’s, and training sessions it was the faithful prayers of those serving along side me in youth ministry that became the best free youth ministry resource to me as I logged onto www.prayer-warrior-brothers-in-Christ.com

…since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you

Do you know someone that has not stopped praying for you, your volunteer leaders, and your students? So who’s praying for you on a regular basis and who are YOU praying for? Better yet, are you praying WITH your students?

…asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding.

Have you ever had a little brother interrupt you during a conversation that completely throws you off? For me, Jason Lamb is like that little brother. It was a welcomed interruption as he prayed specifically for wisdom and understanding as I continue to seek God regarding some matters with ministry. So when you pray for fellow youth workers what are you praying for? I don’t know about you, but I could always use more wisdom and understanding. And if you THINK you’ve reached the point where you DON’T need anymore wisdom, then I’ll be praying you gain some understanding.

…that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way, bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.

So what are you tapping into first when you’re in REAL need? The internet to find your answers or prayer from others who can say; “I’ve been there and understand. Let me pray for you.” Or just maybe, they haven’t been where you are, but are still willing to pray for you because they know God is the ultimate resource for anyone. But keep in mind that tapping into the resource of prayer takes effort on our part. You and I MUST take the step at making connections with those around us. We can’t rely or expect someone or some event to do it for us. It took me being intentional at seeking others out and making connections that allowed me to tap into the resource of prayer.

As you equip and disciple your students to share the gospel, they will need prayer. The power, strength and courage they need won’t come from resources. Resources like these offered here at Dare 2 Share are to be used as “tools” for training. PRAYER is the weapon to be used as you send them out and while they are out.

What are some ways you’ve increased prayer during your weekly youth group meetings as well as outside the church setting during the week with your students?
